Transfer Attributes

The Transfer Attributes function supports the interactive transfer of attributes between features. The source layer can be any linear shapefile or coverage. The target layer will always be a datum layer. You can trace any line layer, including shapefiles imported as local layers. See the Add a Shapefile to the Map topic for more information.

To Transfer Attributes, you must have added a local shapefile layer and be in editing mode.
Transfer Attributes Clicking the Transfer Attributes button toggles the tool on.
Note: The following screenshots are meant to be an example only; your field mappings will depend on the network metadata and the shapefile structure as defined by the database administrator. See the AWLRS Admin Guide for more details on defining field mappings.
  1. Add the shapefile you want to transfer attributes from. Click the Map Layers button .
  2. In the Map Layers dialog, click the Catalog tab and then the Add button.

  3. In the Add Layer dialog, select Shapefile as the Layer Type. Enter the Layer Name, then select the shapefile to use using the Choose File button. Upload the file and click Add to add the layer. The shapefile is added as a Local Layer. Close the Map layers dialog.
  4. Click the Start Spatial Edits button and select the layer you will be working with. Click Start Spatial Edits.
  5. Click the Transfer Attributes button . You are prompted to select the feature to transfer the attributes from.

  7. The Transfer Attributes dialog opens. The top table displays the fields contained in the source layer. Click the Select Target Elements button to specify the fields to be transferred to the target datum layer.

  8. You can now select the elements in the source layer that you wish to transfer attributes from. You can select multiple elements by holding down the Ctrl key while you click the elements.
  9. The Selection Results dialog opens, listing the element(s) you selected. Check the box next to each one that contains attributes to transfer, then click Select.

  10. The Selection Results dialog closes.

The table at the bottom of the Transfer Attributes dialog will now display the attribute(s) that will be transferred to the target datum layer.

  11. Click Transfer to complete the transfer operation.
